Nyame

Akan (Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire) · West Africa
The supreme sky god of the Akan, creator of all things and ruler of the firmament. Nyame is remote from daily life but addressed by epithets across Akan proverb and ritual, including Borebore (Creator) and Odomankoma (Eternal). His consort Asase Ya governs the earth, and the Akan adinkra symbol Gye Nyame (except God) affirms his supremacy.
