Yaa Asantewaa

The Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire, who led the 1900 war against the British after the colonial governor demanded the Golden Stool. Her speech rallying the male chiefs by declaring she would fight even if no man would join her has become one of the most famous moments of African resistance to colonial rule. She was captured and exiled to the Seychelles, where she died in 1921.
