uMvelinqangi

The Zulu name for the supreme being, the source of all and the one who came first. uMvelinqangi is more remote even than Unkulunkulu and is rarely invoked directly. He is said to dwell in the sky and to have brought forth the reed-bed from which the first humans, plants, and animals emerged. Some traditions identify him with the older sky god of the broader Nguni-speaking world.
