Olodumare

Yoruba (Nigeria, Benin); diaspora to Brazil and Cuba · West Africa

The supreme creator god of the Yoruba pantheon, and the source of ase (the divine life force). Olodumare is remote from human affairs, having delegated the day-to-day governance of the world to the Orishas. He is not depicted in human form and has no shrines or sacrifices. Among the Yoruba he is invoked at moments of profound significance and addressed by his many praise names.
