Mbe, known as Ijapa in the Yoruba language, is the central trickster in traditional Igbo folklore who uses experiential wisdom (Ogbon) to navigate life. He is neither a pure hero nor a villain. His flaws reflect a mirror of human weaknesses such as greed. Though his successes teach how to navigate social structures through wit, his failures warn against self-inflicted shame and social isolation.
