Heviosso

Fon (Benin), Ewe (Togo) · West Africa
The Fon thunder god, son of Mawu-Lisa, and guardian of justice through the sky. Heviosso wields a double-bladed axe and strikes liars and oath-breakers with lightning. Those killed by lightning are said to have been struck by Heviosso in punishment, and their bodies cannot be buried until his priests have performed propitiatory rites. His cult is closely related to the Yoruba veneration of Sango.
