A masquerade procession of Lagos Island held to honour a deceased Oba or other dignitary of the city. Eyo masqueraders dress entirely in white flowing robes (agbada) and tall hats, carrying staves called opambata, and chant invocations to the orishas as they move through the streets. The festival is widely considered the visual inspiration for the Nigerian Eagle on the national crest.
