Igue Festival

The annual thanksgiving festival of the Benin Kingdom, held in late December to mark the end of the year and renew the Oba's spiritual covenant with his ancestors. The festival lasts several days and features ritual cleansings, the blessing of the Oba's head (uhe), and the public reaffirmation of royal authority. It is one of the oldest continuously observed festivals in Nigeria.
