Uhamiri (also Ogbuide) is the powerful water goddess of Oguta Lake in southeastern Nigeria. She appears as a beautiful woman with long black hair, often combing it with a golden comb, and is associated with pythons and great wealth. Locally called the Woman of the Lake, she governs fertility, prosperity, and the fortunes of women. Devotees, especially women, seek her blessings for children, success in trade, and protection. She is paired with the river god Urashi (or Okita). Her worship remains central to Oguta identity, and she features prominently in the fiction of Flora Nwapa, a native of the town.
