Oduduwa

Yoruba (Nigeria, Benin) · West Africa
The legendary founder of the Yoruba people and the first Ooni of Ile-Ife, regarded as the ancestor from whom all Yoruba kings claim descent. Some traditions describe Oduduwa as a son of Olodumare sent down to create the earth; others present him as a historical migrant king from the east. Ile-Ife remains the spiritual capital of Yorubaland and the site of his shrine.
