Nambi

Buganda (Uganda) · East Africa
The first woman in Buganda mythology, daughter of the sky god Gulu and wife of Kintu. Nambi descended to earth with Kintu against her father's warning that she not bring her brother Walumbe (death). When the couple did return for Nambi's forgotten millet, Walumbe followed them down, and from that day humanity has been mortal. The Buganda creation story makes Nambi the maternal ancestor of the nation.
