Mwari

Shona (Zimbabwe, Mozambique) · Southern Africa
The supreme creator god of the Shona, addressed by many names according to the aspect being invoked: Musikavanhu (creator of people), Dzivaguru (great pool), Nyadenga (sky). Mwari speaks through chosen oracles, most famously the cave shrine at Matonjeni in the Matobo Hills, where supplicants travelled from across the region to consult. The Mwari cult predates and survived the Zimbabwe Kingdom.
