Kayo-Kayo Festival

A festival held in Epe to commemorate the safe migration of the town's founders, who arrived by canoe across the lagoon from Ijebu after a period of crisis. Boats are paraded along the waterways with traditional drumming and chanting, and offerings are made to the lagoon spirits. The festival's name onomatopoeically renders the sound of the paddles, and it remains one of the most distinctive water festivals of the Yoruba coast.
