The Yoruba Orisha of twins, regarded as a single divinity manifesting in two bodies. Twin births are believed to bring blessings and danger in equal measure, and elaborate rites surround their birth, naming, and care. Ere Ibeji, the wooden statuettes carved when a twin dies, allow the surviving sibling to remain in spiritual partnership with the departed. The Yoruba have one of the highest twin birth rates in the world.
