Aje

The Yoruba Orisha of wealth, prosperity, and the marketplace, often depicted as a beautiful woman or as the patron spirit of cowrie shells. Aje is invoked by traders, especially women, at the start of each market day, and her favour is sought through offerings of white food and quiet prayer. The cowrie, once the currency of West African trade, is her sacred emblem.
