Aganju

Yoruba (Nigeria); diaspora to Cuba and Brazil · West Africa

The Yoruba Orisha of volcanoes, deserts, and the unworked earth beneath the surface. Aganju is variously described as the father, brother, or husband of Sango, and he is associated with the heat of the underworld that produces eruption and ferment. In Cuban Lucumí practice he is one of the most powerful Orishas and is invoked in matters requiring great force, transformation, or the breaking of impossible obstacles.
