A primordial female deity of the Bambara cosmogony, associated with disorder, fire, and the wild forces that preceded creation. Nyale is one of the four major creator-figures of Mande mythology, paired with Faro (the water principle who orders the world). Where Faro brings cool clarity, Nyale supplies the heat and chaos without which nothing new can come into being.
