The Ekpe Masquerade Festival in Abia State
Each January in Umuahia, the Igbo bring out the Ekpe masquerades, costumed embodiments of the ancestors, to dance through the streets. The festival honours the dead and draws the living together, a yearly spectacle that pulls crowds from across Nigeria and beyond.
