Important Update: New Submission Guidelines Starting March 1st, 2025.

Starting March 1st, 2024, Oriire will only accept article submissions based on our monthly writing prompts. Each month, we’ll release five themes, and submissions must align with one of them. This change allows us to spotlight a wider range of historical and mythological stories while ensuring a more structured and engaging experience for both writers and readers.

For March submissions, here are the prompts to choose from:

1. Ancient African Writing Systems – Investigate Africa’s writing systems (e.g., Nsibidi, Tifinagh, Ge’ez) and their historical significance.

2. The Trickster Across Africa – Compare how different cultures have their own trickster figures, from Anansi (Akan) to Eshu (Yoruba) to the Hare (Bantu).

3. Sacred Animals in African Mythology – Investigate the role of animals in African myths (e.g., the lion in Yoruba mythology, the tortoise, etc.).

4. Voodoo, Santería & Candomblé: Tracing African Spirituality in the Diaspora – Investigate the common roots of these African-inspired religions in Haiti, Cuba, and Brazil.

5. African Dishes, Diaspora Twists – Compare African foods with their diaspora variations (e.g., Akara in Nigeria vs. Acarajé in Brazil; Jollof rice in West Africa vs. Red Rice in South Carolina).

Writers whose articles are selected for publication will continue to receive a fixed payment per article. Be sure to follow our submission guidelines to improve your chances of getting published!

New prompts will be announced at the start of each month. Stay tuned and start writing!

We strive to be as diverse in our representation as possible and seek content that cuts across different cultures from the many countries in Africa.

Before submitting your content, please thoroughly review our submission guidelines.
